Brassic
Client: Digital Imaging FX
We produced a broad range of vfx for Sky’s hit comedy-drama series Brassic - from setting cars on fire, sawing the head off a corpse, compositing the gang and a lion into the back of a truck, removing safety wires from a hanging upside down man’s boots, to painting out Joe Gilgun’s naughty bits.
But the REALLY fun stuff has been creating the graphic planning sequences for their audacious heists. Here’s a small selection…
S4 Ep6: Saint Erin
After a tip-off from Dr Chris, Vinnie plots to steal valuable vintage wine from the cellars of a stately home. But he needs a distraction. Cue Erin, Tommo, Ash, Cardi and a reluctant Carol to take part in the owners fancy dress murder mystery.
As Vinnie recites the plan each of the gangs characters are revealed, we were tasked with designing and animating each of the players cards in a Cluedo style with a Brassic twist.
S5 Ep8: The Manolito Problem
When Farmer Jim’s new girlfriend lets slip that her work involves secure storage of rare, explicit Lowry artworks, the gang plot revenge on their adversary Manalito by stealing the paintings and planting them at his house. Much to delight of Davey, who gets hands on in the heist in a bid to view the “pervy” Lowrys.
Jim runs through his plan with the gang in a stylised sequence with a “Mission: Impossible” aesthetic.
WARNING: Video contains naughty words!
S6 Ep1: Stolen FA Cup
Vinnie meets a seasoned criminal with something interesting stashed in his attic - the original FA Cup from 1895 stolen by his Grandad.
Through a passage of play of animated football cards we learn how Aston Villa scored the winning goal to lift the famous trophy.
S6 Ep7: Two Funerals and a Wedding
Unearthing a 20 year old time capsule containing Dylan’s last wishes, plans for the perfect funeral are foiled when those wishes aren’t shared by the family, so they decide to secretly “share the bugger” to ensure their best friend gets the send off he deserves.
The challenge in this fun body-borrow heist plan was to show the extremes of the 2 services without giving away what was to come later in the episode. We used Dylan’s schoolboy scribblings as inspiration for the party vibe and animated neon sign.
